If you’ve listened to a single episode of the 3rd Round Picks podcast or follow me on twitter you’ve likely heard me talk about Carsen Edwards. It was likely no surprise that he ended up in my top 15 when the board came out. In short, I love Carsen Edwards. I love his game, I love his personality, and I believe he’s going to be around for a long time.
Jaylen Nowell caught me by surprise. I got around to scouting Washington pretty early in the process but all the hype was around Thybulle. I was barely paying attention to Nowell because he wasn’t on many people’s boards but I couldn’t help to notice his talent. Others started taking notice around that time as well and he continued to get better as the season went on. I did not know where he would land on my board when I sat down to put it together but I only had a slight hesitation about putting him at 12.
While I was pulling for Goga to be drafted by Charlotte I LOVE that he’s going to a playoff team. Not just a playoff team but a team with a young core that he can grow with over the next few years. I think he is a big unlike any that they already have and instantly adds versatility to their lineups. It’s also a team that is not going need him to do a ton early so he can be brought in slowly if necessary.
As an NBA fan living in South Carolina the closest team to me is the Charlotte Hornets. I’ve been a Mavs fan for as long as I can remember but I’ve been in South Carolina for 17 years now and have been supporting them more and more over the years. One area that they have routinely failed historically has been the draft so on top of the looming Kemba Walker free agency decision, the draft has been a huge source of anxiety for Buzz City.
Overall, the Mavs have been much more quiet the past few days than MFFL’s would have liked but they did hustle to sign Penn State guard Josh Reaves to a 2-way deal. While it’s not a sexy signing, I’m not mad at it from a purely basketball perspective. Luka is going to need good perimeter defenders around him and Reaves could be that.
By now you’re aware that the Mavericks traded down from 37 to 45 in the draft (securing two additional future second round picks) and selected Isiah Roby out of Nebraska. After the draft, the Mavs then quickly swooped in to grab Joshua Reeves out of Penn State on the undrafted free agent market.
The Mavs, for the first time in a long time, have two big time players that are under 25. Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are the future but we need to add complimentary pieces around them. While there is a ton of talk online about 30 year olds that might come in and help the Mavs compete, I’m way more interested in the young guys we can bring in who can grow with the big 2. The types of players we need fall into two camps.
I have spent countless hours watching games this year. From the games I was able to watch live on television to the games I had to watch off of youtube. From the NCAA tournament to the players literally playing in high school gyms. From America, to Brazil, to Lithuania, Australia, Israel, Spain and anywhere else that basketballs bounce and are filmed. I’ve been able to watch enough to confidently speak on over 110 of this year’s prospects and that will start with this big board.
Don’t waste your time on this movie unless you just want to see pretty women be crazy in ways that don’t make sense.
Brightburn has a lot of similarities to The Prodigy. I liked the movie and the family dynamic is similar: scared dad, protective mom. It was way more graphic than I expected but overall, I really enjoyed it.
