I watch a lot of movies and I would be lying if I said that I didn’t forget many things but the opening 5 minutes of The Last Black Man in San Francisco are the most powerful opening 5 minutes I can remember seeing.

Brittany Runs a Marathon review: An unlikeable lead
Brittany Runs a Marathon starts out strong with great humor and an inspiring story. Then, when things appear to be looking up for Brittany she devolves and hurts the people around her. This killed the good vibes and simply made me dislike her the rest of the movie.
Parasite review: Funny, Real, then Dark
I went into Parasite blind so I was incredibly shocked by what I saw. Bong Joon Ho has to be up for every writing and directing award for his work here. Even when I knew things weren’t going to go well I felt secure and when he took that away it left me devastated. By the end I was hurt but the message had been received.
JoJo Rabbit packs a punch despite the humorous elements
You will laugh and you will cry. Taika Waititi’s Nazi Germany satire Jojo Rabbit manages to make you laugh through most of its runtime while still delivering serious messages throughout. Even when things get heavy you can’t help but enjoy this movie.
Rattlesnake is a solid movie with an annoying ending
Rattlesnake is a fine movie to watch when you have nothing else to watch. There’s not a lot to discuss when it’s over but there are some good tense moments and some good horror moments as well. You also do go on a bit of a ride with Ejogo’s character as she tries to work through her predicament. I mostly just didn’t like being toyed with at the end.
Doctor Sleep is a different kind of sequel
Doctor Sleep fills in the gaps from 1980 to 2019 so we know how Danny’s life has gotten where it is now. Then, it expands the world of The Shining masterfully before giving us what feels like a superhero showdown with real stakes. The Haunting of Hill House meets Logan.
Dolemite is my Name honors the late Rudy Ray Moore
Dolemite Is My Name is a raw, dirty comedy with some nudity and plenty of foul language. If you are going to be bothered by this don’t watch. Otherwise Rudy’s transformation and journey are full of laughs, absurd moments, and some inspirational ones as well. Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Wesley Snipes are both great in supporting roles.
Zombieland: Double Tap underwhelms
Zombieland: Double Tap takes you back into a world overrun by zombies but doesn’t quite pack the comedic punch of the first. My favorite character in this one was actually Madison, played by Zoey Deutch (The Politician). Overall, it’s an enjoyable film and there is a nice bonus scene after the credits start.
2019-2020 NBA Season Preview
Not a lot of words in this one. Just predictions. Here’s how I think the 2019-2020 NBA season will shake out.
Fractured wastes no time getting to the mystery
Fractured gets to the mystery almost immediately. You know something is off but it’s hard to judge what it is and when it started. It does a good job of giving you a hint then making you second guess. I was upset by the result at the end but I enjoyed the ride.
