The NBA has been around in one way or another since 1946-1947. That’s over 70 years of players, champions, and stats. However the league didn’t always have 30 teams, the game wasn’t always played the same way, at one point there were two leagues, and not all stats that we consider important today were tracked in the early days.

Just like the first quarter and mid-season report cards, I’ll be handing out letter grades for all of the key players and Coach Carlisle. These are not grades on how good they are, this is a grade on how good they have been at the things they should be doing this season.

The truth is, there are several different reasons but I do think I can pin down the root of it, from there different branches have formed and we’ll get into those too.

Before the season I predicted the Mavs would make the playoffs but I had them in the 7-8 range. When we checked in for our first quarter report card, the Mavs had made their way up to the 2 seed but things have changed since then.
Should the Mavs make a trade?
The idea of the Mavericks making a trade has led to much confrontation among MFFL’s. While some say we need a big body (including the front office according to Woj), others say we need a defensive wing. Then you have those that say that we don’t need to make a move at all. They either bring up the ghost of Rondo past, or the fear of ruining team chemistry.

Before the season I predicted the Mavs would make the playoffs but I had them in the 7-8 range. However with some of the top teams underperforming for different reasons (Blazers and Warriors injuries, Jazz chemistry) the Mavs looked to be in even better position to make the playoffs, perhaps a 4-5 seed. It appears Luka has other plans, though and has carried the Mavs all the way to the 2 seed one fourth of the way through the season.
