We did it, Nico! The Dallas Mavericks secure superstar Kyrie Irving to pair with Luka Doncic. It is a new era in Dallas.

When I woke up this morning I had no plans for the Mavs Outsiders weekly show. Before recording a two-hour trade deadline podcast with my guy Matej (based out of Slovenia), I sent out a tweet saying that this would be a mailbag episode and asking for questions.

Many Mavs fans took us up on the offer with different trade packages and other questions. Matej and I recorded the podcast where we spent a lot of time talking about a potential Kyrie Irving trade as well as other potential deals that could go down.

After the podcast, I went off to start my day. I had a fun thought while getting ready to shower and drew up a 3-team trade that landed Russell Westbrook and a 1st round pick in Dallas and Kyrie in Los Angeles. I got the fanspo screenshot and hit send on the tweet.

Immediately after the tweet went into pending (my tweets go out on a 30-second delay using a Twitter blue feature) I saw the Shams notification.

Wary of falling victim to a fake, I went to the page of the person sending the tweet and confirmed it was the real Shams. The Mavs had done it.

Mavs receive Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris

Nets receive Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, 2029 Unprotected 1st Round pick, 2027 2nd Round pick, 2029 2nd Round pick

With this trade the Dallas Mavericks become the only team in the NBA with two All-Star starters and with Kyrie Irving in Dallas he becomes the best #2 on the Mavs roster in the 25 years Mark Cuban has owned the team. In our last episode, we said “some of these dudes gotta go” and now two of them are gone. We give our thoughts on the trade in the latest Outsiders episode.

Of course, at the end of the episode, we go over our weekly segments.
